CULTURE OF RESEARCH IN THE UNIVERSITY AND IN CAS
Research, together with teaching and extension work, are the
core activities of the people of UA&P, especially among members of the
various faculties (cf. Strategic Guidelines, Annex, Strategic Directions).
The role of research in UA&P is intimately associated
with all the other objectives of the University. This is well articulated in
the Mission Statement of UA&P, which is inserted here as a point of
reference to any further discussion on research.
In the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), faculty members
of all ranks are expected to engage in some kind of research. The majority
pursue research in their field of specialization. Those who prefer dedicating
more time to teaching shall focus their research in pedagogical aspects of
their work.
UA&P has a Research Agenda and encourages all faculty
members to align their own research interests with the proposed themes of
special areas in that Agenda.
CAS allocates for each school year a portion of its budget
to fund the presentation of papers in local or international conferences of its
faculty. The Center for Research and Communications is tasked to seek research
projects where CAS faculty may participate. Funding may also be generated from
government agencies, tie-ups with companies, foundations, or NGOs, or via
collaboration with other universities or academic institutions.
